PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Western Trail Bowie Knife – Damascus, Blue Camel Bone & Sheath combines a bold clip-point profile with flowing forged-steel patterns and a distinctive natural handle. Measuring 13 inches overall, this handmade fixed-blade Bowie features an 8-inch patterned Damascus blade, blue dyed camel bone handle, Damascus guard, matching patterned pommel cap, and protective black leather sheath.
Created for Bowie enthusiasts, Damascus collectors, ranchers, outdoorsmen, and admirers of traditional Western craftsmanship, the Western Trail has a commanding presence. Its large patterned blade, sharpened-looking upper swedge, decorative spine work, and vivid blue handle give it an immediately recognizable design.
Every Damascus pattern and camel bone handle displays natural variation. These differences help make each finished Western Trail Bowie visually individual.
Eight-Inch Damascus Steel Blade
The centerpiece of the Western Trail Bowie is its 8-inch patterned Damascus steel blade. Damascus is admired for its visible layers, flowing lines, contrasting tones, and individual forged patterns.
The blade shown in the photograph displays broad waves, tight layered bands, oval formations, and swirling lines. These patterns extend across the primary bevel, upper swedge, ricasso, guard, and pommel fitting.
Pattern-welded Damascus is formed by combining contrasting steel layers through repeated forging and manipulation. The blade is then shaped, heat treated, ground, polished, and etched to reveal the layered pattern.
Because the pattern develops during forging, no two Western Trail blades will appear completely identical. Differences in pattern direction, line spacing, etching shade, and circular formations are authentic characteristics of handmade Damascus.
Classic Clip-Point Profile
The Western Trail uses a dramatic clip-point Bowie profile. The spine transitions into a long upper clip that narrows toward the point, creating the recognizable silhouette associated with traditional Bowie designs.
A pronounced upper swedge gives the blade additional visual definition. It also creates a strong contrast between the upper patterned section and the primary cutting bevel.
The lower edge extends through a long cutting section before curving toward the point. This combination creates a balanced Bowie profile with generous edge length and a clearly defined tip.
The point should be treated carefully. Avoid prying, throwing, digging, striking metal, or applying sideways pressure to the tip.
Decorative Spine Notches
A row of prominent notches runs along the spine near the handle. These details introduce texture and reinforce the custom outdoor appearance.
The spine work is positioned behind the upper clip and above the ricasso, where it remains highly visible without covering the flowing Damascus pattern across the main blade.
These notches are best treated as decorative and grip-oriented details rather than saw teeth. The knife should not be used as a saw or for heavy impact work unless the construction has been specifically tested for that purpose.
Elongated Blade Cutout
A narrow elongated cutout appears near the ricasso. This feature gives the blade an uncommon custom identity and creates visual separation between the broad primary profile and handle.
The opening is positioned close to the guard, where it complements the decorative spine work and patterned steel fittings.
Clean and dry this area carefully after use because narrow openings can retain moisture if regular maintenance is neglected.
Blue Camel Bone Handle
The handle is crafted from blue dyed camel bone, producing a striking combination of navy, cobalt blue, gray-blue, and lighter natural tones.
Camel bone is valued in traditional knife making because it offers a firm feel, smooth finish, and attractive organic variation. Dye penetrates the natural material unevenly, creating depth and tonal movement.
The pictured handle displays darker blue along the sides and lighter blue-gray through the center. Every camel bone handle may vary in:
- Blue color intensity
- Light and dark transitions
- Natural grain
- Fine surface markings
- Dye distribution
- Pattern and shade
These variations make every finished Bowie individual.
Contoured Five-Inch Grip
Based on the supplied dimensions, the handle measures approximately 5 inches. Its gently tapered form provides sufficient gripping space while balancing the large 8-inch blade.
The grip is wider near the guard and narrows slightly toward the pommel. Smooth contours create a clean custom appearance and allow the blue coloring to remain the primary focus.
A thin reddish spacer separates the bone from the metal guard and pommel. This subtle detail introduces contrast and defines the handle components.
Patterned Damascus Guard
A curved patterned guard separates the blade from the blue camel bone handle. The guard appears to be made from or finished with Damascus-patterned steel, visually connecting it to the blade.
Its silver-gray layered lines contrast strongly with the blue grip. The guard’s curved arms provide the classic transition expected from a handmade Bowie.
Because the pattern continues from the blade into the fitting, the design feels coordinated rather than assembled from unrelated materials.
Matching Patterned Pommel Cap
A patterned metal cap completes the handle’s rear section. Its flowing layers match the blade and guard, creating a balanced three-part Damascus presentation.
The pommel cap frames the blue camel bone and provides a clean finished edge. A thin red spacer separates it from the handle, repeating the detail used near the guard.
The matching blade, guard, and pommel are especially appealing to collectors who appreciate coordinated fittings.
Balanced 13-Inch Construction
The Western Trail Bowie measures 13 inches overall, including its 8-inch blade and approximately 5-inch handle.
These proportions give the knife the commanding presence associated with a full-size Bowie while supplying adequate gripping space. The large blade remains the principal visual element, while the bright handle provides an equally memorable accent.
Its dimensions make it suitable for collection display, outdoor presentation, gifting, and carefully maintained cutting use.
Included Black Leather Sheath
The Bowie includes a fitted black leather sheath designed to protect the Damascus blade during transportation and carry.
The pictured sheath features contrasting light-colored stitching, a shaped profile, snap-retention strap, and extended belt loop. Its simple black coloring allows the Damascus blade and blue handle to remain the focus.
Always insert the blade carefully to avoid cutting the stitching or leather. Ensure that the knife is fully seated and the retention strap is secured before carrying it.
Genuine leather may vary slightly in grain, shade, stitching, and edge finish.
Inspired by Western Trail Heritage
The name Western Trail recalls long-distance cattle routes, open country, ranch work, and traditional frontier craftsmanship.
The Bowie’s clip-point blade, natural handle, patterned metalwork, and leather sheath reflect this heritage while giving the design a premium collector-focused appearance.
Its bold blue handle distinguishes it from conventional brown wood and black synthetic grips. The result is a Western-themed knife with a strong modern color identity.
Made for Collectors and Outdoorsmen
The Western Trail Bowie will appeal to customers who appreciate:
- Patterned Damascus steel
- Classic clip-point Bowie profiles
- Blue camel bone handles
- Decorative spine work
- Coordinated Damascus fittings
- Leather sheath sets
- Western collections
- Legendary named knives
- Distinctive handmade gifts
Its combination of forged pattern, natural material, and traditional Bowie geometry gives it a clear identity within a larger collection.
A Memorable Western Gift
The Western Trail Bowie makes an impressive gift for Bowie collectors, ranchers, outdoorsmen, hunters, Damascus enthusiasts, and admirers of natural bone handles.
It is suitable for birthdays, anniversaries, Father’s Day, Christmas, graduations, retirements, collector milestones, and ranch celebrations.
The blue camel bone creates immediate visual impact, while the patterned blade, guard, pommel, and black leather sheath complete the presentation.
Because each blade and handle varies naturally, the recipient receives an individually patterned handmade piece.
Damascus Blade Care
Clean the blade after every use and dry it thoroughly. Pay particular attention to the elongated cutout and decorative spine notches.
Apply a thin coating of knife-safe mineral oil before storage, especially after exposure to fingerprints, moisture, humidity, blood, or acidic materials.
Do not place the knife in a dishwasher or leave it submerged in water. Avoid abrasive pads, strong polishing compounds, and harsh chemicals because they can alter the etched Damascus pattern.
For long-term storage, keep the lightly oiled Bowie outside its leather sheath in a cool, dry location.
Camel Bone and Sheath Care
Wipe the camel bone handle with a soft, slightly damp cloth, then dry it immediately. Avoid soaking, direct heat, prolonged sunlight, harsh cleaners, and rapid temperature changes.
If the leather sheath becomes wet, remove the knife and allow both pieces to dry separately at room temperature. Apply an appropriate leather conditioner sparingly when necessary.
With responsible use and regular care, the Western Trail Bowie can retain its forged pattern, vivid blue handle, and distinctive frontier presentation for years.

I'm very pleased with this tent after having it for two years I've been in the rain I've been in the snow and it's held up pretty good but the cover that covers it did not hold up that good but the tent is perfect
Really enjoy the awning. Easy setup and got a little rain on the first trip. Easy to adjust for the run off. Very happy with the purchase!
I am one of the earliest customers Astrodome, I bought it and didn’t set it up for almost a year. By the time we set it up, we were blown away by the beauty of this space we purchased it on a mountain ledge in our glamping retreat in Lake County California two hours north of San as much as I love this space there are definitely some challenges with it in our location. It might work better than other locations, but we have had problems with the stakes, slipping and collapsing in the ground beneath and with the prevailing winds, it did stay up and it stays dry, even in tornadoes, but because the wind hits it from One Direction coming from the coast, this is definitely been a challenge for us we are going to try adding some weight inside it. The guests absolutely love this space keep in mind that with those skylights it’s going to get hot in the summertime but what’s nice is in the winter. It heats up almost passive solar. it’s also wonderful with a woodstove. A very cost effective alternative to a geodesic dome! If you want to experience it stay in ours, on Hipcamp.
I bought one of these at Scheels and absolutely love it. Great design, has everything you would ever need in a first aid/trauma/survival kit. Have one in all of my vehicles now. These guys truly thought of everything
A complete coverage of possibilities for my project and needs.
I love my new tent stove. Costumer service was also attentive and great to work with. Thank you.
The mounts work perfect with the truck bed rack I have on. Thank you for the excellent line of communication. You guys never kept me in the dark. I will ordering from you guys again.
I was wondering if you are able to sell just two extra mounts or do they just come in a set of six.
The color was even better in person. For well, looks well made and was easy to fold up and put into the carrying case. There was a bunch of colored plastic pieces from manufacturing on the mat, but I was able to vacuum it right up so be careful pulling it out.
Although it took a little extra time the delay very of my OVS Truck Topper was great. Good price too!
Fully engaged with customer, helped me get the crossbar I needed on time!
Product worked out great for my rack setup.
Order was delayed due to manufacturer delays, but my questions were answered and expectations on timing reset along the way. Cross bars were in perfect condition and work great!
I was in the market for a 3/4 length roof rack for my 4Runner as I wanted an upgrade from the OEM rails but still wanted to retain a somewhat OEM look. I am very happy that I went with the Sherpa Needle. It is a high quality rack with the best install method out of all the racks I looked at. I like that it is designed so you don’t have to deal with a mess of silicone when mounting. It is also nice that the fairing sits just above the roof instead of resting on it so that the paint does not get scratched. I was worried about wind noise because of this but I am happy to say there is no added wind noise at all.
I am also glad I purchased this rack through Live More Outside. I shopped around and they had the best pricing considering I was able to get a discount code, shipping was free, and they don’t charge sales tax. Shipping was prompt and I received the rack sooner than I thought I would.
Overall I am very pleased with this purchase and I will definitely come back to Live More Outside as I continue to build my rig.
By far one of the best customer service! Nathan has been a huge help on any questions and quick to respond! Live more outside is top notch. We are getting ready to hit our first outing with our new RTT. Cant wait to test it out. We also just purchased a 270 awning. I found one on another website but wanted to keep my business with live more outside. Nathan price matched and beat their price! We will continue to keep our business with this company!
