PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Western Style Damascus Pipe Tomahawk Hand Forged Viking Axe combines striking patterned Damascus steel, traditional tomahawk styling, and a handcrafted rosewood handle in one distinctive outdoor collectible. Measuring approximately 18 inches overall, the axe features a 7.25-inch head/blade profile, approximately 6-inch axe head width, a natural rosewood handle, and a fitted field belt leather sheath.
The most distinctive feature is the patterned Damascus steel head. Flowing layers travel across the broad cutting section and continue into the compact pipe-style rear profile, creating a different pattern across every handmade piece. Combined with the warm brown rosewood handle and traditional leather sheath, the result is an axe with strong Western, frontier, and historical-inspired character.
Every piece is individually hand-finished by Sham Knives, so variations in Damascus pattern, rosewood grain, steel finish, and leatherwork make each tomahawk unique.
What Is a Damascus Pipe Tomahawk?
A pipe tomahawk is recognized by its distinctive combination of a broad axe profile and a pipe-style rear section. This gives it a noticeably different silhouette from an ordinary camp hatchet or conventional bearded axe.
On this model, that traditional form is recreated using patterned Damascus steel.
The combination creates a piece that appeals to customers interested in Western craftsmanship, historical-inspired tomahawks, Damascus steelwork, Viking-style axes, and handmade outdoor collectibles.
Its 18-inch overall length keeps the design compact enough for display and appropriate field use while giving the long rosewood handle a strong traditional appearance.
Hand-Forged Damascus Steel Head
The centerpiece of this tomahawk is its Damascus steel head.
Rather than having a completely uniform steel surface, Damascus displays flowing layered patterns throughout the head. These lines produce the characteristic appearance that makes Damascus steel especially desirable among collectors of handmade blades and forged steelwork.
The pattern is visible across the broad face of the axe and creates an attractive contrast against the warm rosewood handle.
Because Damascus patterns naturally vary during forging and finishing, no two heads should be expected to have perfectly identical pattern placement.
That individuality is part of the character of a handmade Damascus tomahawk.
7.25-Inch Head and Blade Profile
The head/blade profile measures approximately 7.25 inches, with an overall axe head width of approximately 6 inches.
These dimensions give the tomahawk a substantial head while keeping the complete piece manageable at 18 inches overall.
The broad curved cutting profile creates the classic visual presence expected from a traditional tomahawk, while the rear pipe-style section adds an immediately recognizable historical-inspired detail.
For collectors, the combination of Damascus patterning and this unusual head geometry makes the axe particularly distinctive when displayed.
Western & Viking-Inspired Character
This design brings together several influences rather than following a single historical reproduction.
The pipe-tomahawk silhouette gives the piece its strong Western and frontier-inspired appearance, while the hand-forged construction and broad axe profile also make it attractive to customers searching for Viking and Norse-inspired handmade axes.
The result is a crossover design intended for people who appreciate traditional forged craftsmanship rather than a strict museum reproduction.
Its natural materials reinforce that character: patterned steel, real wood, and leather create a much warmer appearance than synthetic modern materials.
Natural Rosewood Handle
The handle is crafted from rosewood, selected for its rich natural coloration and distinctive grain.
The photograph shows a warm brown handle with a series of carved circular grooves running along much of its length. These grooves give the handle additional visual depth while emphasizing its handcrafted construction.
Rosewood pairs particularly well with Damascus steel because the flowing wood grain complements the layered pattern visible across the axe head.
Natural wood can vary slightly in shade, grain direction, and figuring. As a result, each handle may have its own individual appearance.
Carved Handle Detailing
One of the most noticeable features of this model is the carved treatment running down the rosewood handle.
Rather than leaving the handle completely smooth, repeated grooves create a traditional segmented appearance.
This detailing helps separate the design from ordinary factory-made tomahawks and contributes to its handmade Western aesthetic.
At approximately 18 inches overall, the long carved handle also gives the axe excellent visual proportions, balancing the substantial Damascus head without making the finished piece excessively large.
Field Belt Leather Sheath Included
A fitted field belt leather sheath is included.
The brown leather construction complements the natural rosewood handle and provides coverage for the cutting edge during appropriate transport and storage.
Traditional stitching and fastening hardware reinforce the handcrafted presentation.
Before putting the axe into its sheath, always ensure that the Damascus steel is clean and completely dry.
For extended storage, avoid leaving moisture trapped between steel and leather.
Handmade Damascus Character
No two handmade Damascus pieces should be expected to look completely identical.
Small differences may occur in:
- Damascus pattern placement
- Rosewood grain
- Wood coloration
- Forged steel texture
- Hand finishing
- Leather coloration
- Stitching and sheath finishing
These natural differences are part of what gives an individually made tomahawk its character.
Instead of receiving a completely standardized factory product, the customer receives a piece with its own steel and wood pattern.
Care & Maintenance
Damascus steel should be kept clean and dry.
After appropriate outdoor use, wipe the head thoroughly to remove dirt and moisture.
Applying a very thin coating of mineral oil or suitable blade/tool oil periodically can help protect the steel surface.
Avoid prolonged exposure to water or excessive humidity.
The rosewood handle should also be wiped clean rather than soaked.
If the leather sheath becomes wet, allow it to dry naturally before storing the axe.
For long-term storage, keep the tomahawk in a dry environment and periodically inspect the Damascus head, rosewood handle, and leather sheath.

I'm very pleased with this tent after having it for two years I've been in the rain I've been in the snow and it's held up pretty good but the cover that covers it did not hold up that good but the tent is perfect
Really enjoy the awning. Easy setup and got a little rain on the first trip. Easy to adjust for the run off. Very happy with the purchase!
I am one of the earliest customers Astrodome, I bought it and didn’t set it up for almost a year. By the time we set it up, we were blown away by the beauty of this space we purchased it on a mountain ledge in our glamping retreat in Lake County California two hours north of San as much as I love this space there are definitely some challenges with it in our location. It might work better than other locations, but we have had problems with the stakes, slipping and collapsing in the ground beneath and with the prevailing winds, it did stay up and it stays dry, even in tornadoes, but because the wind hits it from One Direction coming from the coast, this is definitely been a challenge for us we are going to try adding some weight inside it. The guests absolutely love this space keep in mind that with those skylights it’s going to get hot in the summertime but what’s nice is in the winter. It heats up almost passive solar. it’s also wonderful with a woodstove. A very cost effective alternative to a geodesic dome! If you want to experience it stay in ours, on Hipcamp.
I bought one of these at Scheels and absolutely love it. Great design, has everything you would ever need in a first aid/trauma/survival kit. Have one in all of my vehicles now. These guys truly thought of everything
A complete coverage of possibilities for my project and needs.
I love my new tent stove. Costumer service was also attentive and great to work with. Thank you.
The mounts work perfect with the truck bed rack I have on. Thank you for the excellent line of communication. You guys never kept me in the dark. I will ordering from you guys again.
I was wondering if you are able to sell just two extra mounts or do they just come in a set of six.
The color was even better in person. For well, looks well made and was easy to fold up and put into the carrying case. There was a bunch of colored plastic pieces from manufacturing on the mat, but I was able to vacuum it right up so be careful pulling it out.
Although it took a little extra time the delay very of my OVS Truck Topper was great. Good price too!
Fully engaged with customer, helped me get the crossbar I needed on time!
Product worked out great for my rack setup.
Order was delayed due to manufacturer delays, but my questions were answered and expectations on timing reset along the way. Cross bars were in perfect condition and work great!
I was in the market for a 3/4 length roof rack for my 4Runner as I wanted an upgrade from the OEM rails but still wanted to retain a somewhat OEM look. I am very happy that I went with the Sherpa Needle. It is a high quality rack with the best install method out of all the racks I looked at. I like that it is designed so you don’t have to deal with a mess of silicone when mounting. It is also nice that the fairing sits just above the roof instead of resting on it so that the paint does not get scratched. I was worried about wind noise because of this but I am happy to say there is no added wind noise at all.
I am also glad I purchased this rack through Live More Outside. I shopped around and they had the best pricing considering I was able to get a discount code, shipping was free, and they don’t charge sales tax. Shipping was prompt and I received the rack sooner than I thought I would.
Overall I am very pleased with this purchase and I will definitely come back to Live More Outside as I continue to build my rig.
By far one of the best customer service! Nathan has been a huge help on any questions and quick to respond! Live more outside is top notch. We are getting ready to hit our first outing with our new RTT. Cant wait to test it out. We also just purchased a 270 awning. I found one on another website but wanted to keep my business with live more outside. Nathan price matched and beat their price! We will continue to keep our business with this company!
