PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Tivoli Ulu Knife takes the ancient semi-circular rocking blade and rebuilds it around materials that make every piece genuinely one of a kind. A wood-grain Damascus blade curves around a built-in finger hole, letting you slide your grip directly over the edge for the kind of downward control that a standard handle position simply can't deliver. Strong vertical lines move through the steel from spine to tip, a result of layered steel folded repeatedly during forging, leaving a pattern that never repeats from blade to blade.
The handle splits cleanly between two materials. Black resin covers one half, white resin covers the other, and a polished brass bolster joins them at the center. A blue mosaic pin sits set into the white section, catching the eye against the pale surface. A brass pin locks the black section in on the opposing side, with full-tang steel running beneath both halves to keep the whole piece solid. Together, the two tones give this ulu a visual contrast that reads just as well on a display shelf as it does on a cutting board.
The finger hole is where this knife earns its place in a serious kitchen. Gripping through the hole puts your hand directly above the blade, concentrating force downward rather than pushing forward from behind the handle. Rocking through garlic, herbs, or vegetables becomes faster and less tiring, especially during long prep sessions where a standard chef's knife starts to wear on the wrist.
Tivoli Ulu Knife at JW Steel Crafts with a black-and-white split resin handle, brass bolster, and blue mosaic pin set into a wood-grain Damascus blade.
The History Behind This Blade
The ulu traces back to Inuit culture, where a curved rocking blade served as the primary cutting tool for food prep and field tasks for generations. Damascus forging stretches back centuries, built on the principle that layered steel holds a sharper, tougher edge than any single alloy. Split-material handles became a signature of custom knife making, pairing different materials for both grip variety and visual contrast. JW Steel Crafts forges this blade by hand, keeping the traditional ulu shape at the center of the design.
Blade Performance
Wood-grain Damascus steel holds a sharp edge through repeated daily kitchen use. The curved semi-circular profile rocks cleanly across any cutting surface without dragging or lifting. Gripping through the finger hole puts direct downward force on the blade for maximum efficiency. This design cuts rocking and mincing time significantly compared to a standard straight-edge knife. Regular oiling keeps the high-carbon steel rust-free between uses.
Handle Construction
Black resin and white resin divide the handle into two halves, meeting at a polished brass bolster at the center. A blue mosaic pin secures the white section to the full tang blade with a decorative accent. A brass pin locks the black section firmly into place on the opposing side. Full tang construction runs the entire length of both handle sections for strength and balance. Both resin materials resist moisture and hold their color well over time with basic care.
Best Used For
This knife excels at mincing herbs, garlic, and small produce with fast, controlled rocking motions. It also slices pizza cleanly in one pass without lifting from the surface. Home cooks dealing with wrist or joint pain find the finger hole grip significantly more comfortable. Collectors are drawn to the split handle contrast and the Damascus blade pattern equally. As a gift, it suits home chefs, outdoor cooks, and collectors looking for a distinctive handmade piece.

I'm very pleased with this tent after having it for two years I've been in the rain I've been in the snow and it's held up pretty good but the cover that covers it did not hold up that good but the tent is perfect
Really enjoy the awning. Easy setup and got a little rain on the first trip. Easy to adjust for the run off. Very happy with the purchase!
I am one of the earliest customers Astrodome, I bought it and didn’t set it up for almost a year. By the time we set it up, we were blown away by the beauty of this space we purchased it on a mountain ledge in our glamping retreat in Lake County California two hours north of San as much as I love this space there are definitely some challenges with it in our location. It might work better than other locations, but we have had problems with the stakes, slipping and collapsing in the ground beneath and with the prevailing winds, it did stay up and it stays dry, even in tornadoes, but because the wind hits it from One Direction coming from the coast, this is definitely been a challenge for us we are going to try adding some weight inside it. The guests absolutely love this space keep in mind that with those skylights it’s going to get hot in the summertime but what’s nice is in the winter. It heats up almost passive solar. it’s also wonderful with a woodstove. A very cost effective alternative to a geodesic dome! If you want to experience it stay in ours, on Hipcamp.
I bought one of these at Scheels and absolutely love it. Great design, has everything you would ever need in a first aid/trauma/survival kit. Have one in all of my vehicles now. These guys truly thought of everything
A complete coverage of possibilities for my project and needs.
I love my new tent stove. Costumer service was also attentive and great to work with. Thank you.
The mounts work perfect with the truck bed rack I have on. Thank you for the excellent line of communication. You guys never kept me in the dark. I will ordering from you guys again.
I was wondering if you are able to sell just two extra mounts or do they just come in a set of six.
The color was even better in person. For well, looks well made and was easy to fold up and put into the carrying case. There was a bunch of colored plastic pieces from manufacturing on the mat, but I was able to vacuum it right up so be careful pulling it out.
Although it took a little extra time the delay very of my OVS Truck Topper was great. Good price too!
Fully engaged with customer, helped me get the crossbar I needed on time!
Product worked out great for my rack setup.
Order was delayed due to manufacturer delays, but my questions were answered and expectations on timing reset along the way. Cross bars were in perfect condition and work great!
I was in the market for a 3/4 length roof rack for my 4Runner as I wanted an upgrade from the OEM rails but still wanted to retain a somewhat OEM look. I am very happy that I went with the Sherpa Needle. It is a high quality rack with the best install method out of all the racks I looked at. I like that it is designed so you don’t have to deal with a mess of silicone when mounting. It is also nice that the fairing sits just above the roof instead of resting on it so that the paint does not get scratched. I was worried about wind noise because of this but I am happy to say there is no added wind noise at all.
I am also glad I purchased this rack through Live More Outside. I shopped around and they had the best pricing considering I was able to get a discount code, shipping was free, and they don’t charge sales tax. Shipping was prompt and I received the rack sooner than I thought I would.
Overall I am very pleased with this purchase and I will definitely come back to Live More Outside as I continue to build my rig.
By far one of the best customer service! Nathan has been a huge help on any questions and quick to respond! Live more outside is top notch. We are getting ready to hit our first outing with our new RTT. Cant wait to test it out. We also just purchased a 270 awning. I found one on another website but wanted to keep my business with live more outside. Nathan price matched and beat their price! We will continue to keep our business with this company!
