The Iron Talon 1075 Carbon Steel Spike Tomahawk
Meet The Iron Talon 1075 Carbon Steel Spike Tomahawk, a rugged handcrafted design combining a broad cutting edge, pronounced rear spike, hammered steel finish, and distinctive jigged hardwood handle.
Inspired by traditional tomahawk profiles while carrying its own bold character, The Iron Talon is built around a 1075 carbon steel head with a dramatic dual-purpose silhouette. One side features the sweeping cutting edge expected from a traditional tomahawk, while the opposite side extends into a long tapered spike.
The dark jigged hardwood handle creates a striking contrast against the bright steel head. Deep carved grooves run along the handle, producing a rugged handcrafted texture while giving the entire piece an unmistakable appearance.
A fitted leather sheath completes the package, covering the cutting portion of the head for appropriate storage and transportation.
For collectors searching for a 1075 carbon steel tomahawk, spike tomahawk axe, hand forged tomahawk, traditional tomahawk, carbon steel hatchet, or hardwood handle tomahawk, The Iron Talon brings these features together in one distinctive handcrafted design.
1075 High Carbon Steel Head
At the heart of The Iron Talon is its 1075 carbon steel axe head.
1075 is a straightforward high-carbon steel commonly valued in forged cutting tools because it offers a practical combination of toughness, edge potential, and straightforward maintenance.
The steel gives this tomahawk a traditional material foundation rather than relying on decorative appearance alone.
The head shown features a contrasting finish: the main face carries visible hammered texture while the cutting section is finished brighter and smoother. This combination gives The Iron Talon a handcrafted appearance and allows the forged texture of the steel to remain visible.
Distinctive Spike Tomahawk Profile
One of the most recognizable characteristics of The Iron Talon is its rear spike.
Extending from the opposite side of the cutting edge, the spike gives the tomahawk a dramatic historical-inspired silhouette. Its stepped, tapered geometry adds considerable visual character and immediately separates this model from an ordinary camp hatchet.
The result is a recognizable spike tomahawk design that will stand out in a handmade axe or traditional tomahawk collection.
Wide Curved Cutting Edge
Opposite the spike is a broad cutting section with a sweeping curved edge.
The head's open profile and deep lower curve create the traditional visual character associated with tomahawks and bearded-style axes.
Rather than making the head unnecessarily bulky, this profile keeps the design visually balanced between the front cutting section and extended rear spike.
The bright cutting edge contrasts beautifully with the darker forged texture toward the center of the head.
Jigged Hardwood Handle
The axe head is paired with a particularly distinctive jigged hardwood handle.
Deep grooves are worked along the length of the dark handle, producing an intentionally rugged surface rather than the smooth appearance found on standard axe handles.
This jigged treatment gives The Iron Talon an immediately recognizable identity.
The dark finish also creates an excellent visual contrast with the bright 1075 carbon steel head. From a product photography perspective, the combination of blackened hardwood, polished steel, and brown leather creates a premium traditional aesthetic.
Natural variations in wood grain, texture, jigging, and coloration can occur from one handmade piece to another.
Traditional Handcrafted Character
The Iron Talon is designed for customers who appreciate traditional materials and visible craftsmanship.
Instead of hiding every forging mark beneath a completely uniform factory finish, the steel head retains textured characteristics that reinforce its handcrafted presentation.
The hardwood handle similarly displays intentional carved texture.
These details are especially appealing to collectors looking for handmade pieces where minor differences contribute to individual character.
Leather Sheath Included
A brown leather sheath is included with The Iron Talon.
The sheath covers the cutting section of the axe head and uses traditional stitching and metal snap hardware. Its warm brown color provides a classic contrast against the black hardwood handle and silver steel.
The leather sheath is useful for protecting the cutting edge during suitable storage and transportation.
Because leather can retain moisture, the carbon steel head should always be completely clean and dry before extended storage.
A Standout Collector's Tomahawk
The Iron Talon has an unmistakable presence.
Its combination of a wide cutting edge, hammered 1075 carbon steel, long rear spike, dark jigged hardwood handle, and traditional leather sheath creates a distinctive profile from virtually every viewing angle.
It can make a strong addition to collections centered around traditional tomahawks, forged axes, carbon steel craftsmanship, historical-inspired outdoor tools, or handmade metalwork.
Because handmade construction naturally produces small differences in forging marks, wood texture, leather grain, and finish, each piece can carry subtle individual characteristics.
Carbon Steel Care
Proper maintenance is especially important with 1075 carbon steel because carbon steel can develop oxidation when exposed to moisture for extended periods.
After handling or appropriate outdoor use, wipe the steel clean and dry it thoroughly.
Apply a light coating of mineral oil or another suitable carbon-steel protectant periodically, particularly before longer storage.
Avoid leaving the head wet or storing it in a damp environment.
If storing the tomahawk for an extended period, make sure both the steel and the inside of the leather sheath are completely dry.
The hardwood handle should likewise be protected from excessive moisture and extreme environmental conditions.
A Memorable Gift for Tomahawk & Axe Enthusiasts
The Iron Talon makes a distinctive gift for people interested in traditional axes, handcrafted steel, outdoor craftsmanship, historical-inspired designs, tomahawks, and collectible forged tools.
Its combination of 1075 carbon steel, spike profile, jigged hardwood, and handcrafted leather gives it a much stronger personality than an ordinary mass-produced hatchet.
Whether selected as part of an established collection or as a standalone display piece, The Iron Talon 1075 Carbon Steel Spike Tomahawk represents rugged traditional styling with unmistakable handcrafted character.

I'm very pleased with this tent after having it for two years I've been in the rain I've been in the snow and it's held up pretty good but the cover that covers it did not hold up that good but the tent is perfect
Really enjoy the awning. Easy setup and got a little rain on the first trip. Easy to adjust for the run off. Very happy with the purchase!
I am one of the earliest customers Astrodome, I bought it and didn’t set it up for almost a year. By the time we set it up, we were blown away by the beauty of this space we purchased it on a mountain ledge in our glamping retreat in Lake County California two hours north of San as much as I love this space there are definitely some challenges with it in our location. It might work better than other locations, but we have had problems with the stakes, slipping and collapsing in the ground beneath and with the prevailing winds, it did stay up and it stays dry, even in tornadoes, but because the wind hits it from One Direction coming from the coast, this is definitely been a challenge for us we are going to try adding some weight inside it. The guests absolutely love this space keep in mind that with those skylights it’s going to get hot in the summertime but what’s nice is in the winter. It heats up almost passive solar. it’s also wonderful with a woodstove. A very cost effective alternative to a geodesic dome! If you want to experience it stay in ours, on Hipcamp.
I bought one of these at Scheels and absolutely love it. Great design, has everything you would ever need in a first aid/trauma/survival kit. Have one in all of my vehicles now. These guys truly thought of everything
A complete coverage of possibilities for my project and needs.
I love my new tent stove. Costumer service was also attentive and great to work with. Thank you.
The mounts work perfect with the truck bed rack I have on. Thank you for the excellent line of communication. You guys never kept me in the dark. I will ordering from you guys again.
I was wondering if you are able to sell just two extra mounts or do they just come in a set of six.
The color was even better in person. For well, looks well made and was easy to fold up and put into the carrying case. There was a bunch of colored plastic pieces from manufacturing on the mat, but I was able to vacuum it right up so be careful pulling it out.
Although it took a little extra time the delay very of my OVS Truck Topper was great. Good price too!
Fully engaged with customer, helped me get the crossbar I needed on time!
Product worked out great for my rack setup.
Order was delayed due to manufacturer delays, but my questions were answered and expectations on timing reset along the way. Cross bars were in perfect condition and work great!
I was in the market for a 3/4 length roof rack for my 4Runner as I wanted an upgrade from the OEM rails but still wanted to retain a somewhat OEM look. I am very happy that I went with the Sherpa Needle. It is a high quality rack with the best install method out of all the racks I looked at. I like that it is designed so you don’t have to deal with a mess of silicone when mounting. It is also nice that the fairing sits just above the roof instead of resting on it so that the paint does not get scratched. I was worried about wind noise because of this but I am happy to say there is no added wind noise at all.
I am also glad I purchased this rack through Live More Outside. I shopped around and they had the best pricing considering I was able to get a discount code, shipping was free, and they don’t charge sales tax. Shipping was prompt and I received the rack sooner than I thought I would.
Overall I am very pleased with this purchase and I will definitely come back to Live More Outside as I continue to build my rig.
By far one of the best customer service! Nathan has been a huge help on any questions and quick to respond! Live more outside is top notch. We are getting ready to hit our first outing with our new RTT. Cant wait to test it out. We also just purchased a 270 awning. I found one on another website but wanted to keep my business with live more outside. Nathan price matched and beat their price! We will continue to keep our business with this company!
