PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Rasp File Steel Ranch Knife – Pine Cone Handle & Floral Cross Belt Sheath is a handcrafted Western-style fixed blade designed for ranch users, cowboys, outdoorsmen, hunters, and collectors who appreciate rugged steelwork paired with premium natural materials. With an overall length of approximately 8 inches and a 4-inch rasp file steel blade, this knife keeps a compact, practical profile while offering the handmade character expected from a traditional ranch knife.
The photograph shows a polished working edge with a visible rasp-style textured section along the upper blade, giving the knife a distinctive forged-file appearance. The handle combines pine cone material with a steel bolster, producing a strong contrast between the natural patterned grip and the polished metal transition at the front of the handle.
The complete knife is paired with a richly decorated floral hand-tooled cross belt leather sheath, making the sheath an important part of the product rather than a basic accessory. The deep floral tooling, contrasting leather tones, black edging, and multiple belt slots reinforce the knife’s Western identity and give it a premium handcrafted finish.
Every piece is individually hand-finished by Sham Knives, so slight differences in rasp texture, pine cone pattern, leather tooling, and overall finish are part of the natural character of a handmade product.
What Makes a Rasp File Steel Ranch Knife Different
Rasp file steel knives have a distinctive look because the steel often retains part of the original file or rasp texture instead of being completely polished away.
On this knife, the textured upper section contrasts against the smoother polished cutting area, creating a rugged handmade appearance that works especially well with ranch and cowboy styling.
That texture gives the blade a strong blacksmith-inspired identity and helps separate the knife visually from ordinary factory-made fixed blades.
For buyers specifically searching for a rasp steel knife, ranch knife, or handmade cowboy knife, this is one of the strongest visual selling points.
4-Inch Working Blade
The blade measures approximately 4 inches, making it well suited to customers who prefer a compact fixed blade instead of an oversized field knife.
At around 8 inches overall, the knife maintains a balanced blade-to-handle ratio that works naturally for belt carry.
The 4-inch blade gives enough length for appropriate ranch, outdoor, hunting, and general field tasks while keeping the overall profile manageable for regular carry.
The curved cutting edge also creates the classic practical shape often associated with ranch and working cowboy knives.
Pine Cone Handle
The pine cone handle is one of the standout details of this knife.
Natural pine cone material creates a complex pattern of organic lines and contrasting tones throughout the grip. Because each piece of pine cone differs, finished handles can vary slightly in pattern, grain, and color.
That means each knife has its own individual appearance.
This kind of natural variation is especially valuable in handmade Western knives because buyers are not receiving a completely identical synthetic handle from one knife to the next.
Steel Bolster for a Clean Transition
A polished steel bolster sits between the blade and pine cone handle.
The bolster creates a clean transition from the rasp file steel blade into the patterned grip and adds a bright metallic accent against the organic handle material.
Its sculpted shape also gives the front of the grip a more finished, premium look.
The combination of steel bolster and pine cone handle makes the knife visually stronger than a plain slab-handle design.
Floral Hand-Tooled Cross Belt Sheath
The included sheath is one of the strongest parts of the complete package.
This knife comes with a floral hand-tooled leather cross belt sheath designed with multiple belt slots for cross-belt carry.
The photograph shows detailed floral carving through the center panel, warm orange-brown leather sections, dark edging, and contrasting stitching. The result is a traditional Western sheath that complements the knife instead of looking like an afterthought.
The cross belt layout is especially appealing to buyers looking for convenient ranch-style carry.
Why Cross Belt Carry Works for a Ranch Knife
Cross belt sheaths are popular because they can position the knife horizontally or at an angle across the belt, depending on the specific sheath configuration.
This can keep the knife closer to the body and reduce the amount of vertical length hanging from the belt.
For a compact 8-inch ranch knife, that carry style works especially well because the knife remains easy to access while keeping the profile tidy.
The sheath shown also provides a broad base that distributes the knife across the belt rather than relying on a single narrow loop.
Handmade Western Character
The real appeal of this knife comes from the complete combination of materials:
rasp file steel, pine cone handle, steel bolster, and hand-tooled floral leather.
Each material contributes a different texture and visual character.
The steel provides ruggedness, the pine cone adds individuality, the bolster gives a polished transition, and the floral sheath supplies traditional Western craftsmanship.
Together, those elements create a product with a clear ranch and cowboy identity.
Care and Maintenance
Rasp and high-carbon-style steels should be kept clean and dry.
After use, wipe the blade carefully and remove any moisture or residue. A thin coating of mineral oil or suitable blade oil can help protect the steel during longer periods of storage.
Make sure the blade is completely dry before placing it inside the leather sheath.
Leather can retain moisture, so avoid storing a damp knife inside the sheath for extended periods.
The pine cone handle should also be kept away from prolonged soaking and excessive heat.
A Strong Rancher and Cowboy Gift
This knife makes a distinctive gift for someone who appreciates Western craftsmanship.
It is especially suitable for ranchers, cowboys, outdoorsmen, hunters, handmade knife collectors, and buyers looking for a practical but visually unique fixed blade.
The floral cross belt sheath gives the complete set a presentation quality that works well for birthdays, Father’s Day, anniversaries, ranch gifts, and collector gifts.

I'm very pleased with this tent after having it for two years I've been in the rain I've been in the snow and it's held up pretty good but the cover that covers it did not hold up that good but the tent is perfect
Really enjoy the awning. Easy setup and got a little rain on the first trip. Easy to adjust for the run off. Very happy with the purchase!
I am one of the earliest customers Astrodome, I bought it and didn’t set it up for almost a year. By the time we set it up, we were blown away by the beauty of this space we purchased it on a mountain ledge in our glamping retreat in Lake County California two hours north of San as much as I love this space there are definitely some challenges with it in our location. It might work better than other locations, but we have had problems with the stakes, slipping and collapsing in the ground beneath and with the prevailing winds, it did stay up and it stays dry, even in tornadoes, but because the wind hits it from One Direction coming from the coast, this is definitely been a challenge for us we are going to try adding some weight inside it. The guests absolutely love this space keep in mind that with those skylights it’s going to get hot in the summertime but what’s nice is in the winter. It heats up almost passive solar. it’s also wonderful with a woodstove. A very cost effective alternative to a geodesic dome! If you want to experience it stay in ours, on Hipcamp.
I bought one of these at Scheels and absolutely love it. Great design, has everything you would ever need in a first aid/trauma/survival kit. Have one in all of my vehicles now. These guys truly thought of everything
A complete coverage of possibilities for my project and needs.
I love my new tent stove. Costumer service was also attentive and great to work with. Thank you.
The mounts work perfect with the truck bed rack I have on. Thank you for the excellent line of communication. You guys never kept me in the dark. I will ordering from you guys again.
I was wondering if you are able to sell just two extra mounts or do they just come in a set of six.
The color was even better in person. For well, looks well made and was easy to fold up and put into the carrying case. There was a bunch of colored plastic pieces from manufacturing on the mat, but I was able to vacuum it right up so be careful pulling it out.
Although it took a little extra time the delay very of my OVS Truck Topper was great. Good price too!
Fully engaged with customer, helped me get the crossbar I needed on time!
Product worked out great for my rack setup.
Order was delayed due to manufacturer delays, but my questions were answered and expectations on timing reset along the way. Cross bars were in perfect condition and work great!
I was in the market for a 3/4 length roof rack for my 4Runner as I wanted an upgrade from the OEM rails but still wanted to retain a somewhat OEM look. I am very happy that I went with the Sherpa Needle. It is a high quality rack with the best install method out of all the racks I looked at. I like that it is designed so you don’t have to deal with a mess of silicone when mounting. It is also nice that the fairing sits just above the roof instead of resting on it so that the paint does not get scratched. I was worried about wind noise because of this but I am happy to say there is no added wind noise at all.
I am also glad I purchased this rack through Live More Outside. I shopped around and they had the best pricing considering I was able to get a discount code, shipping was free, and they don’t charge sales tax. Shipping was prompt and I received the rack sooner than I thought I would.
Overall I am very pleased with this purchase and I will definitely come back to Live More Outside as I continue to build my rig.
By far one of the best customer service! Nathan has been a huge help on any questions and quick to respond! Live more outside is top notch. We are getting ready to hit our first outing with our new RTT. Cant wait to test it out. We also just purchased a 270 awning. I found one on another website but wanted to keep my business with live more outside. Nathan price matched and beat their price! We will continue to keep our business with this company!
