PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Octagonal Damascus Drilling Hammer features a faceted head built for solid, repeated strikes. Two flat faces sit on opposite ends of the octagon shape. Damascus steel forms a wood-grain pattern across both striking surfaces. A natural wood handle connects to the head through an eye and wedge fit. This construction has stayed reliable for generations of tool users.
Wood-grain Damascus forms when layers of steel are folded and forged repeatedly. That process creates the flowing lines seen across the head. The wood handle carries natural grain marks and a darker burnt section. That darker section sits near the base of the handle. This kind of finish is common on traditional hammer handles. Each handle takes on its own color and grain pattern. No two hammers in this style look completely identical.
This hammer works well for light striking tasks, display, or gifting. Collectors of forged tools appreciate the octagon head shape and wood grain pattern. It also makes a solid addition to any workshop or tool collection. Buyers often pick this style for its blend of function and craftsmanship.
Octagonal Damascus Drilling Hammer at JW SteelCrafts with a wood grain forged head, natural wood handle, and eye and wedge fit construction.
The History Behind This Octagonal Damascus Drilling Hammer
Drilling hammers date back to early stonework and blacksmith trades. Workers used the double flat face to strike chisels and drill bits. Damascus forging spread through many cultures for its strength and pattern. Wood handles have long paired with steel heads for balance and grip. That combination remains popular among collectors and tradespeople today. JW SteelCrafts continues that pairing in this modern octagon design.
Blade Performance
The octagon head shape gives a balanced, comfortable grip point for controlled swings. Two flat striking faces let you use either end for even wear. That symmetry makes the head useful for a wider range of tasks. Forged Damascus steel holds up well to repeated impact. The eye and wedge fit keep the head secure on the handle. A light coat of oil prevents rust on the exposed steel surface.
Handle Construction
The handle is made from natural wood with visible grain lines. A darker burnt section near the base adds contrast and character. No bolster or metal fittings interrupt the handle design. The head attaches through a traditional eye and wedge fit. This method has secured hammer heads for generations. Wood requires occasional care to prevent drying or cracking over time. A light coat of oil or wax helps preserve the finish.
Best Used For
This hammer works well for light workshop tasks, display, or collecting. It suits fans of Damascus steel and traditional forged tools. Given as a gift, it appeals to anyone who values handcrafted design. The natural wood grain also makes each piece feel personal and distinct.
Order the Octagonal Damascus Drilling Hammer today. Each head is individually forged, so the pattern and wood grain vary slightly.

I'm very pleased with this tent after having it for two years I've been in the rain I've been in the snow and it's held up pretty good but the cover that covers it did not hold up that good but the tent is perfect
Really enjoy the awning. Easy setup and got a little rain on the first trip. Easy to adjust for the run off. Very happy with the purchase!
I am one of the earliest customers Astrodome, I bought it and didn’t set it up for almost a year. By the time we set it up, we were blown away by the beauty of this space we purchased it on a mountain ledge in our glamping retreat in Lake County California two hours north of San as much as I love this space there are definitely some challenges with it in our location. It might work better than other locations, but we have had problems with the stakes, slipping and collapsing in the ground beneath and with the prevailing winds, it did stay up and it stays dry, even in tornadoes, but because the wind hits it from One Direction coming from the coast, this is definitely been a challenge for us we are going to try adding some weight inside it. The guests absolutely love this space keep in mind that with those skylights it’s going to get hot in the summertime but what’s nice is in the winter. It heats up almost passive solar. it’s also wonderful with a woodstove. A very cost effective alternative to a geodesic dome! If you want to experience it stay in ours, on Hipcamp.
I bought one of these at Scheels and absolutely love it. Great design, has everything you would ever need in a first aid/trauma/survival kit. Have one in all of my vehicles now. These guys truly thought of everything
A complete coverage of possibilities for my project and needs.
I love my new tent stove. Costumer service was also attentive and great to work with. Thank you.
The mounts work perfect with the truck bed rack I have on. Thank you for the excellent line of communication. You guys never kept me in the dark. I will ordering from you guys again.
I was wondering if you are able to sell just two extra mounts or do they just come in a set of six.
The color was even better in person. For well, looks well made and was easy to fold up and put into the carrying case. There was a bunch of colored plastic pieces from manufacturing on the mat, but I was able to vacuum it right up so be careful pulling it out.
Although it took a little extra time the delay very of my OVS Truck Topper was great. Good price too!
Fully engaged with customer, helped me get the crossbar I needed on time!
Product worked out great for my rack setup.
Order was delayed due to manufacturer delays, but my questions were answered and expectations on timing reset along the way. Cross bars were in perfect condition and work great!
I was in the market for a 3/4 length roof rack for my 4Runner as I wanted an upgrade from the OEM rails but still wanted to retain a somewhat OEM look. I am very happy that I went with the Sherpa Needle. It is a high quality rack with the best install method out of all the racks I looked at. I like that it is designed so you don’t have to deal with a mess of silicone when mounting. It is also nice that the fairing sits just above the roof instead of resting on it so that the paint does not get scratched. I was worried about wind noise because of this but I am happy to say there is no added wind noise at all.
I am also glad I purchased this rack through Live More Outside. I shopped around and they had the best pricing considering I was able to get a discount code, shipping was free, and they don’t charge sales tax. Shipping was prompt and I received the rack sooner than I thought I would.
Overall I am very pleased with this purchase and I will definitely come back to Live More Outside as I continue to build my rig.
By far one of the best customer service! Nathan has been a huge help on any questions and quick to respond! Live more outside is top notch. We are getting ready to hit our first outing with our new RTT. Cant wait to test it out. We also just purchased a 270 awning. I found one on another website but wanted to keep my business with live more outside. Nathan price matched and beat their price! We will continue to keep our business with this company!
