PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Handmade 1095 Carbon Steel Fillet Knife – Red Padauk Wood Handle combines traditional knife-making materials with a distinctive fishing-oriented design. Measuring approximately 13 inches overall, this handmade fixed-blade knife features a long 1095 high-carbon steel blade, a rich red Padauk wood handle, and a fitted brown leather sheath.
Created for anglers who appreciate handcrafted equipment, this knife has considerably more character than an ordinary factory-produced fishing knife. Its dark blade finish, long sweeping profile, textured blade detailing, natural hardwood handle, and traditional leather sheath create a rugged yet refined appearance suitable for fishing trips, outdoor use, collections, and gifting.
1095 High Carbon Steel Blade
At the heart of the knife is its 1095 high-carbon steel blade.
1095 is a classic carbon steel with a long history in knife making. It is valued for its straightforward performance characteristics and ability to take a keen cutting edge when properly heat-treated and sharpened.
Unlike stainless steels, 1095 contains relatively little chromium and therefore requires regular care to help protect it against corrosion. For many traditional knife enthusiasts, however, that maintenance is part of the appeal of owning a carbon-steel blade.
The steel also works particularly well with rustic and dark finishes, giving handmade knives a distinctive character.
Dark-Finished Fillet Blade
One of the most noticeable features in the photograph is the dark blade finish.
Instead of a completely polished silver surface, this knife has a deep blackened appearance across much of the blade. The cutting edge provides a clean visual contrast against the darker blade body.
Decorative linear/textured details along the upper portion of the blade further distinguish the knife from conventional smooth-sided fishing knives.
The dark finish also pairs beautifully with the reddish-brown Padauk handle.
Long Fillet-Style Profile
The knife uses an extended, gradually curving blade that sweeps toward a fine point.
This gives it the classic visual characteristics associated with a fillet and fishing knife. The narrow profile provides a long cutting edge while keeping the blade significantly more streamlined than a broad hunting or camp knife.
At approximately 13 inches overall, the knife has the substantial proportions expected from a full-size fishing blade.
Red Padauk Wood Handle
The Red Padauk wood handle is one of the defining characteristics of this knife.
Padauk is known for its naturally rich reddish and reddish-brown coloration. Here, the deep wood tones complement the dark blade beautifully, creating a bold contrast without relying on brightly colored synthetic handle materials.
Natural wood grain remains visible across the handle, reinforcing the handmade character of the knife.
Because Padauk is a natural material, individual handles may display subtle differences in color, grain, and figuring. Those variations help make individual handmade knives visually unique.
Contoured Handle Design
The handle uses a gently curved ergonomic profile.
A pronounced finger contour immediately behind the blade creates a defined grip area, while the handle gradually curves toward the rear. The result is a balanced visual transition between the long blade and hardwood handle.
Multiple brass-colored pins secure and decorate the handle scales.
The butt also incorporates a lanyard hole, adding another traditional outdoor detail to the design.
Handmade Fishing Knife Character
This knife is designed for customers who appreciate handmade craftsmanship rather than uniform mass production.
Its combination of 1095 carbon steel, dark blade finishing, natural Padauk wood, metal pins, and leatherwork gives the knife an individual identity.
Minor variations in natural wood grain, coloration, and handmade finishing can occur and should be considered part of the character of a handcrafted product.
Brown Leather Sheath Included
The knife is accompanied by a long brown leather sheath.
Visible contrasting stitching runs around the outer edge, while the sheath is shaped to accommodate the extended blade profile. A leather loop is incorporated at the upper end.
The brown leather pairs especially well with the reddish Padauk handle and black blade, completing the knife's traditional outdoor aesthetic.
The sheath also helps protect the cutting edge during appropriate storage and transportation.
Designed with the Angler in Mind
The elongated blade profile makes this knife especially appealing to fishermen searching for a handmade alternative to standard commercial fishing knives.
Its shape is suitable for fishing-oriented cutting and fish-preparation tasks, while its handcrafted appearance makes it equally appealing to collectors.
The combination of a long blade and contoured handle gives the knife a purposeful fishing profile without sacrificing visual character.
Excellent Gift for Fishermen
This knife also has strong gifting potential.
Its distinctive black blade and natural red Padauk handle make it immediately recognizable when presented as a gift. The included leather sheath completes the package.
It can make an attractive gift for a fisherman, angler, outdoorsman, father, husband, son, grandfather, fishing partner, or handmade knife collector.
Possible occasions include Father's Day, birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries, retirement, fishing tournaments, fishing trips, and other outdoor celebrations.
Caring for 1095 Carbon Steel
Proper maintenance is particularly important with 1095 high-carbon steel.
Unlike stainless steel, 1095 can develop oxidation or rust when repeatedly exposed to water, moisture, salt, or acidic materials without proper cleaning.
After using the knife, clean the blade appropriately and dry it completely.
Saltwater exposure requires particular attention. Rinse away salt residue as appropriate, thoroughly dry the blade, and apply a very light coating of suitable food-safe mineral oil when appropriate.
Never put a handmade carbon-steel knife in a dishwasher.
Caring for the Padauk Wood Handle
The natural Padauk handle should not be left submerged in water or exposed unnecessarily to harsh cleaning chemicals.
Clean the handle gently and dry it after use.
Over time, natural Padauk may change slightly in coloration as it is exposed to light and environmental conditions. Such changes are normal characteristics of genuine wood.
Leather Sheath Care
Never place the knife into its leather sheath while the blade is wet.
Leather can retain moisture, which is particularly undesirable with 1095 carbon steel. For longer-term storage, ensure that both the knife and sheath are completely dry.
Occasional conditioning with an appropriate leather-care product can help preserve the sheath.
Traditional Steel Meets Natural Hardwood
The Handmade 1095 Carbon Steel Fillet Knife – Red Padauk Wood Handle brings together some of the most recognizable elements of traditional handmade knife craftsmanship.
Its 13-inch overall length, long fishing-oriented profile, 1095 carbon steel construction, distinctive dark blade, rich Padauk wood handle, decorative pins, lanyard hole, and brown leather sheath create an attractive package for fishermen who want something different from a conventional production knife.
Whether selected for fishing, outdoor use, gifting, or a handmade knife collection, this model delivers an appealing combination of classic carbon steel, natural hardwood, traditional leatherwork, and distinctive handcrafted styling.

I'm very pleased with this tent after having it for two years I've been in the rain I've been in the snow and it's held up pretty good but the cover that covers it did not hold up that good but the tent is perfect
Really enjoy the awning. Easy setup and got a little rain on the first trip. Easy to adjust for the run off. Very happy with the purchase!
I am one of the earliest customers Astrodome, I bought it and didn’t set it up for almost a year. By the time we set it up, we were blown away by the beauty of this space we purchased it on a mountain ledge in our glamping retreat in Lake County California two hours north of San as much as I love this space there are definitely some challenges with it in our location. It might work better than other locations, but we have had problems with the stakes, slipping and collapsing in the ground beneath and with the prevailing winds, it did stay up and it stays dry, even in tornadoes, but because the wind hits it from One Direction coming from the coast, this is definitely been a challenge for us we are going to try adding some weight inside it. The guests absolutely love this space keep in mind that with those skylights it’s going to get hot in the summertime but what’s nice is in the winter. It heats up almost passive solar. it’s also wonderful with a woodstove. A very cost effective alternative to a geodesic dome! If you want to experience it stay in ours, on Hipcamp.
I bought one of these at Scheels and absolutely love it. Great design, has everything you would ever need in a first aid/trauma/survival kit. Have one in all of my vehicles now. These guys truly thought of everything
A complete coverage of possibilities for my project and needs.
I love my new tent stove. Costumer service was also attentive and great to work with. Thank you.
The mounts work perfect with the truck bed rack I have on. Thank you for the excellent line of communication. You guys never kept me in the dark. I will ordering from you guys again.
I was wondering if you are able to sell just two extra mounts or do they just come in a set of six.
The color was even better in person. For well, looks well made and was easy to fold up and put into the carrying case. There was a bunch of colored plastic pieces from manufacturing on the mat, but I was able to vacuum it right up so be careful pulling it out.
Although it took a little extra time the delay very of my OVS Truck Topper was great. Good price too!
Fully engaged with customer, helped me get the crossbar I needed on time!
Product worked out great for my rack setup.
Order was delayed due to manufacturer delays, but my questions were answered and expectations on timing reset along the way. Cross bars were in perfect condition and work great!
I was in the market for a 3/4 length roof rack for my 4Runner as I wanted an upgrade from the OEM rails but still wanted to retain a somewhat OEM look. I am very happy that I went with the Sherpa Needle. It is a high quality rack with the best install method out of all the racks I looked at. I like that it is designed so you don’t have to deal with a mess of silicone when mounting. It is also nice that the fairing sits just above the roof instead of resting on it so that the paint does not get scratched. I was worried about wind noise because of this but I am happy to say there is no added wind noise at all.
I am also glad I purchased this rack through Live More Outside. I shopped around and they had the best pricing considering I was able to get a discount code, shipping was free, and they don’t charge sales tax. Shipping was prompt and I received the rack sooner than I thought I would.
Overall I am very pleased with this purchase and I will definitely come back to Live More Outside as I continue to build my rig.
By far one of the best customer service! Nathan has been a huge help on any questions and quick to respond! Live more outside is top notch. We are getting ready to hit our first outing with our new RTT. Cant wait to test it out. We also just purchased a 270 awning. I found one on another website but wanted to keep my business with live more outside. Nathan price matched and beat their price! We will continue to keep our business with this company!
