PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Handcrafted Ranch Skinning Knife – Rasp Steel Blade, Pine Cone Handle & Cross Belt Sheath combines the rugged character of a traditional working ranch knife with distinctive handmade Western craftsmanship. Built around a compact 8-inch overall profile, this fixed blade features a 4-inch rasp steel blade, a patterned pine cone handle, a polished steel bolster, and a premium hand-tooled cross belt leather sheath.
Designed for ranchers, hunters, outdoorsmen, cowboys, and collectors who appreciate handcrafted blades, this knife stands apart from ordinary production knives. The polished cutting section contrasts beautifully with the retained rasp-style texture along the upper portion of the blade, giving the steel a recognizable handmade appearance.
The pine cone handle adds another layer of individuality. Its natural organic pattern means every handle can have subtle differences in coloration and detail, while the polished steel bolster creates a clean transition between blade and grip.
Completing the package is an impressive hand-tooled leather sheath with Western floral detailing and a cross-belt configuration. Together, these elements give the knife the practical proportions of a working field blade with the presentation quality expected from a collectible handmade ranch knife.
Every piece is individually hand-finished by Sham Knives.
What Is a Ranch Skinning Knife?
A ranch skinning knife is a compact fixed blade designed around control, comfortable handling, and a practical cutting profile.
Rather than relying on excessive blade length, a good ranch knife gives the user enough cutting edge for appropriate field, ranch, and outdoor jobs while remaining manageable on the belt.
This knife follows that philosophy with a 4-inch blade and 8-inch overall length.
The gently curved cutting profile provides useful edge length without making the knife unnecessarily large. Its proportions also make it a natural match for the included cross belt sheath.
For customers searching for a working cowboy knife, ranch knife, skinning knife, or handmade Western fixed blade, this design offers a strong balance between compact dimensions and traditional styling.
Rasp Steel Blade With Distinctive File Texture
One of the defining characteristics of this knife is its rasp steel blade.
Rather than polishing every part of the blade completely smooth, the upper blade retains a pronounced cross-pattern texture reminiscent of the original rasp surface.
This creates an immediate visual distinction between the polished cutting section and textured upper portion.
The result is a rugged blacksmith-inspired appearance that suits the Western character of the knife exceptionally well.
The blade measures approximately 4 inches, giving it a compact working profile suitable for controlled cutting and appropriate field tasks.
Why the 4-Inch Blade Works for Ranch Carry
Blade size matters considerably on a belt-carried ranch knife.
At approximately four inches, this blade provides useful cutting length while keeping the complete knife to only about eight inches overall.
That makes the knife easier to carry than oversized fixed blades.
The curved edge also gives the blade the recognizable profile many buyers associate with traditional skinning and ranch knives.
Combined with the cross belt sheath, these proportions create a knife designed around practical carry rather than unnecessary size.
Pine Cone Handle With Individual Character
The pine cone handle is one of the most visually distinctive features of this ranch knife.
Pine cone material produces organic patterns that cannot be perfectly duplicated from one handle to another. Each finished piece can therefore show its own arrangement of lines, tones, and natural-looking details.
This individuality works especially well on a handmade knife.
The warm brown and golden pattern of the handle complements both the bright steel blade and the rich colors of the leather sheath.
Two metal pins secure the handle scales and add subtle metallic accents to the overall design.
Polished Steel Bolster
A polished steel bolster separates the blade from the pine cone grip.
Besides creating a clean transition between the two primary materials, the bolster gives the knife a more refined visual finish.
Its curved profile follows the shape of the handle and provides a comfortable transition near the front of the grip.
The combination of rasp steel, polished bolster, and patterned pine cone gives this knife a much more distinctive appearance than a basic production ranch knife.
Hand-Tooled Cross Belt Leather Sheath
The included hand-tooled cross belt sheath is a major part of the complete design.
It features detailed Western floral tooling with contrasting orange-brown and darker leather sections, prominent stitching, finished edges, and integrated belt slots.
Rather than using a simple vertical belt loop, the broad cross-belt design allows the knife to sit along the belt in a traditional ranch-oriented carry position.
This style can be particularly convenient with a compact fixed blade because it keeps the knife closer to the body.
The sheath also complements the pine cone handle beautifully, creating a coordinated Western presentation.
Handmade Western Craftsmanship
What makes this knife special is not one individual feature but the combination of materials and finishing:
Rasp steel blade. Pine cone handle. Steel bolster. Hand-tooled leather. Cross belt carry.
Each component contributes to the overall Western identity.
The textured rasp steel gives the knife rugged character. The pine cone adds individuality. The steel bolster provides a polished transition. Finally, the floral leatherwork gives the complete piece the traditional craftsmanship associated with premium cowboy and ranch gear.
Because these knives are hand-finished, minor differences between individual pieces should be expected and are part of their handmade character.
Functional Use & Carry
With its compact 8-inch overall size, this knife is intended for customers who prefer a manageable fixed blade for appropriate ranch, hunting, outdoor, and field cutting jobs.
The 4-inch blade keeps the cutting edge controllable, while the full-size handle provides a substantial gripping area.
When carrying the knife, make sure it is seated securely inside the leather sheath.
Always follow applicable local laws and regulations concerning knife ownership, transportation, and carry.
Care for Your Rasp Steel Ranch Knife
Proper maintenance is particularly important with carbon-based and rasp steels.
After use, clean the blade and wipe it completely dry. Applying a very thin coating of food-safe mineral oil or suitable blade oil periodically can help protect exposed steel against moisture and corrosion.
Avoid leaving the blade wet or dirty.
The leather sheath should also remain dry. If it becomes damp, allow it to air-dry naturally away from direct heat.
For long-term storage, it is generally better to keep a carbon steel blade clean, lightly oiled, and outside its leather sheath, as leather can retain moisture.
A Distinctive Gift for Ranchers & Cowboys
The combination of handmade construction and Western leatherwork makes this knife an excellent gift option.
It can appeal particularly to ranchers, cowboys, hunters, outdoorsmen, farmers, Western collectors, and anyone who appreciates handcrafted fixed blades.
The floral cross belt sheath makes the set especially presentation-worthy because the buyer receives more than just the knife—the leatherwork becomes part of the craftsmanship.

I'm very pleased with this tent after having it for two years I've been in the rain I've been in the snow and it's held up pretty good but the cover that covers it did not hold up that good but the tent is perfect
Really enjoy the awning. Easy setup and got a little rain on the first trip. Easy to adjust for the run off. Very happy with the purchase!
I am one of the earliest customers Astrodome, I bought it and didn’t set it up for almost a year. By the time we set it up, we were blown away by the beauty of this space we purchased it on a mountain ledge in our glamping retreat in Lake County California two hours north of San as much as I love this space there are definitely some challenges with it in our location. It might work better than other locations, but we have had problems with the stakes, slipping and collapsing in the ground beneath and with the prevailing winds, it did stay up and it stays dry, even in tornadoes, but because the wind hits it from One Direction coming from the coast, this is definitely been a challenge for us we are going to try adding some weight inside it. The guests absolutely love this space keep in mind that with those skylights it’s going to get hot in the summertime but what’s nice is in the winter. It heats up almost passive solar. it’s also wonderful with a woodstove. A very cost effective alternative to a geodesic dome! If you want to experience it stay in ours, on Hipcamp.
I bought one of these at Scheels and absolutely love it. Great design, has everything you would ever need in a first aid/trauma/survival kit. Have one in all of my vehicles now. These guys truly thought of everything
A complete coverage of possibilities for my project and needs.
I love my new tent stove. Costumer service was also attentive and great to work with. Thank you.
The mounts work perfect with the truck bed rack I have on. Thank you for the excellent line of communication. You guys never kept me in the dark. I will ordering from you guys again.
I was wondering if you are able to sell just two extra mounts or do they just come in a set of six.
The color was even better in person. For well, looks well made and was easy to fold up and put into the carrying case. There was a bunch of colored plastic pieces from manufacturing on the mat, but I was able to vacuum it right up so be careful pulling it out.
Although it took a little extra time the delay very of my OVS Truck Topper was great. Good price too!
Fully engaged with customer, helped me get the crossbar I needed on time!
Product worked out great for my rack setup.
Order was delayed due to manufacturer delays, but my questions were answered and expectations on timing reset along the way. Cross bars were in perfect condition and work great!
I was in the market for a 3/4 length roof rack for my 4Runner as I wanted an upgrade from the OEM rails but still wanted to retain a somewhat OEM look. I am very happy that I went with the Sherpa Needle. It is a high quality rack with the best install method out of all the racks I looked at. I like that it is designed so you don’t have to deal with a mess of silicone when mounting. It is also nice that the fairing sits just above the roof instead of resting on it so that the paint does not get scratched. I was worried about wind noise because of this but I am happy to say there is no added wind noise at all.
I am also glad I purchased this rack through Live More Outside. I shopped around and they had the best pricing considering I was able to get a discount code, shipping was free, and they don’t charge sales tax. Shipping was prompt and I received the rack sooner than I thought I would.
Overall I am very pleased with this purchase and I will definitely come back to Live More Outside as I continue to build my rig.
By far one of the best customer service! Nathan has been a huge help on any questions and quick to respond! Live more outside is top notch. We are getting ready to hit our first outing with our new RTT. Cant wait to test it out. We also just purchased a 270 awning. I found one on another website but wanted to keep my business with live more outside. Nathan price matched and beat their price! We will continue to keep our business with this company!
