PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Field working cowboy Knife – Rasp Steel With Pine Cone handle is a handcrafted ranch-style fixed blade built around a rugged 4-inch rasp steel blade, a distinctive pine cone handle, polished steel bolster, and a richly decorated floral hand-tooled leather belt sheath. With an overall length of approximately 8 inches, this knife combines compact working proportions with the traditional character expected from a handmade cowboy and ranch knife.
The photograph immediately highlights the contrast between the polished blade, textured file-inspired detailing, colorful pine cone handle, and deeply tooled leather sheath. Instead of using a plain production-style handle, this knife features natural pine cone material stabilized within resin, creating a pattern that gives every finished piece its own individual appearance.
Designed for ranch users, outdoorsmen, hunters, collectors, and buyers who appreciate handmade Western craftsmanship, the knife is compact enough for convenient belt carry while providing a full 4-inch fixed blade for appropriate field and ranch tasks.
Traditional Field Working Cowboy Knife Design
A good cowboy knife is defined by practicality, manageable size, and convenient belt carry.
At approximately 8 inches overall, this model keeps the proportions balanced between blade and handle. The 4-inch blade provides a useful working length without making the knife excessively large for everyday ranch or outdoor carry.
Its slightly curved cutting profile and defined point make the design versatile for appropriate field tasks, while the pronounced transition between blade and handle gives the knife the classic handmade fixed-blade appearance associated with Western-style craftsmanship.
The included leather sheath completes the design by allowing the knife to be carried securely on a belt.
Rasp Steel Blade with Handcrafted Character
The blade is made from rasp steel, giving the knife the distinctive character associated with repurposed file-style steelwork.
One of the most noticeable details in the photograph is the textured pattern along the upper portion of the blade. This detail preserves the rugged visual identity of rasp construction while contrasting against the polished lower cutting section.
Rather than polishing away every sign of the steel's character, this approach allows the knife to retain the traditional blacksmith-inspired appearance that many handmade knife collectors prefer.
The combination of polished steel and visible rasp-style texture creates an immediately recognizable look that separates this knife from mass-produced ranch knives.
4-Inch Blade for Field and Ranch Use
The blade measures approximately 4 inches, making it a practical medium-size fixed blade.
This length works particularly well for customers wanting a ranch knife that is substantial enough for general outdoor and field utility while still being easy to carry on the belt.
The blade-to-handle proportions also provide a balanced appearance, with approximately half of the overall 8-inch length dedicated to the cutting section and half to the grip.
For a working cowboy, rancher, outdoorsman, or collector, this compact format can be more convenient than carrying a significantly larger fixed blade.
Pine Cone Handle – Every Pattern Is Different
The pine cone handle is one of the strongest selling points of this knife.
The photograph shows a vivid reddish and dark natural pattern formed by the pine cone material, producing organic lines that run throughout the handle. Because pine cone structures naturally differ, each finished handle can show variations in color, grain, pattern, and internal detail.
This means no two pieces should look perfectly identical.
That natural individuality is especially attractive for customers looking for handmade Western knives because the handle gives each piece a unique appearance rather than the uniform look of synthetic mass-production materials.
Polished Steel Bolster
A polished steel bolster sits between the rasp steel blade and the pine cone handle.
The bolster creates a clean visual transition between the blade and grip while adding a bright metallic contrast against the colorful handle.
Its curved shape also helps define the front of the handle and contributes to the traditional ranch-knife profile.
Together, the rasp blade, polished bolster, and patterned pine cone handle create a premium handcrafted look that works equally well for functional use or display.
Floral Hand-Tooled Leather Belt Sheath
The included sheath is an important part of this knife rather than a basic accessory.
The photograph shows a richly decorated hand-tooled floral leather sheath with Western-style flower and scrollwork patterns, contrasting leather colors, dark edging, and visible stitching.
Multiple belt slots allow the sheath to be worn securely according to its intended belt configuration.
The deep floral tooling reinforces the cowboy and ranch character of the complete set and gives the sheath a handcrafted appearance that complements the knife.
When stored properly, the leather sheath also helps protect the blade edge during transport and belt carry.
Why This Knife Works as a Cowboy and Ranch Knife
The appeal of this design comes from the combination of compact dimensions and traditional Western materials.
The knife is large enough to feel substantial but not oversized. The rasp steel blade gives it a rugged working identity, while the pine cone handle and floral leatherwork add the custom craftsmanship that collectors expect from a handmade knife.
For buyers searching for a cowboy knife, ranch knife, rasp steel knife, or Western belt knife, those elements give the product a clear identity without relying on unnecessary styling.
Care for Your Rasp Steel Knife
Rasp and high-carbon-style steels generally benefit from regular maintenance.
After use, wipe the blade clean and completely dry. If the blade has been exposed to moisture, humidity, or acidic material, clean it promptly rather than allowing residue to remain on the steel.
A thin application of suitable blade oil or mineral oil during storage can help protect the steel surface.
For long-term storage, make sure the blade is completely dry before placing it inside the leather sheath. Leather can retain moisture, so avoid leaving a damp blade enclosed for extended periods.
The pine cone handle should also be kept away from excessive heat and prolonged water exposure.
A Distinctive Western Gift
This handcrafted knife can make an excellent gift for someone who appreciates ranch life, cowboy culture, handmade knives, outdoor craftsmanship, or Western leatherwork.
The combination of rasp steel, pine cone material, polished bolster, and hand-tooled floral sheath gives the knife more character than a standard production blade.
It can be especially suitable for birthdays, Father's Day, anniversaries, ranchers, cowboys, hunters, outdoor enthusiasts, and collectors of handcrafted Western knives.

I'm very pleased with this tent after having it for two years I've been in the rain I've been in the snow and it's held up pretty good but the cover that covers it did not hold up that good but the tent is perfect
Really enjoy the awning. Easy setup and got a little rain on the first trip. Easy to adjust for the run off. Very happy with the purchase!
I am one of the earliest customers Astrodome, I bought it and didn’t set it up for almost a year. By the time we set it up, we were blown away by the beauty of this space we purchased it on a mountain ledge in our glamping retreat in Lake County California two hours north of San as much as I love this space there are definitely some challenges with it in our location. It might work better than other locations, but we have had problems with the stakes, slipping and collapsing in the ground beneath and with the prevailing winds, it did stay up and it stays dry, even in tornadoes, but because the wind hits it from One Direction coming from the coast, this is definitely been a challenge for us we are going to try adding some weight inside it. The guests absolutely love this space keep in mind that with those skylights it’s going to get hot in the summertime but what’s nice is in the winter. It heats up almost passive solar. it’s also wonderful with a woodstove. A very cost effective alternative to a geodesic dome! If you want to experience it stay in ours, on Hipcamp.
I bought one of these at Scheels and absolutely love it. Great design, has everything you would ever need in a first aid/trauma/survival kit. Have one in all of my vehicles now. These guys truly thought of everything
A complete coverage of possibilities for my project and needs.
I love my new tent stove. Costumer service was also attentive and great to work with. Thank you.
The mounts work perfect with the truck bed rack I have on. Thank you for the excellent line of communication. You guys never kept me in the dark. I will ordering from you guys again.
I was wondering if you are able to sell just two extra mounts or do they just come in a set of six.
The color was even better in person. For well, looks well made and was easy to fold up and put into the carrying case. There was a bunch of colored plastic pieces from manufacturing on the mat, but I was able to vacuum it right up so be careful pulling it out.
Although it took a little extra time the delay very of my OVS Truck Topper was great. Good price too!
Fully engaged with customer, helped me get the crossbar I needed on time!
Product worked out great for my rack setup.
Order was delayed due to manufacturer delays, but my questions were answered and expectations on timing reset along the way. Cross bars were in perfect condition and work great!
I was in the market for a 3/4 length roof rack for my 4Runner as I wanted an upgrade from the OEM rails but still wanted to retain a somewhat OEM look. I am very happy that I went with the Sherpa Needle. It is a high quality rack with the best install method out of all the racks I looked at. I like that it is designed so you don’t have to deal with a mess of silicone when mounting. It is also nice that the fairing sits just above the roof instead of resting on it so that the paint does not get scratched. I was worried about wind noise because of this but I am happy to say there is no added wind noise at all.
I am also glad I purchased this rack through Live More Outside. I shopped around and they had the best pricing considering I was able to get a discount code, shipping was free, and they don’t charge sales tax. Shipping was prompt and I received the rack sooner than I thought I would.
Overall I am very pleased with this purchase and I will definitely come back to Live More Outside as I continue to build my rig.
By far one of the best customer service! Nathan has been a huge help on any questions and quick to respond! Live more outside is top notch. We are getting ready to hit our first outing with our new RTT. Cant wait to test it out. We also just purchased a 270 awning. I found one on another website but wanted to keep my business with live more outside. Nathan price matched and beat their price! We will continue to keep our business with this company!
