PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Field Dressing Bull Cutter Knife – Rasp Steel & Pine Cone Handle combines a broad working blade with the rugged heritage of traditional rasp-file steel and the unique character of stabilized pine-cone resin. Measuring 7 inches overall, this handmade fixed-blade knife features a 3.25-inch rasp steel blade, brass handle pins, and a richly tooled leather pancake sheath.
Created for ranchers, cowboys, hunters, farmers, campers, and collectors, this compact bull cutter offers an effective balance of cutting surface, edge control, and portability. The wide blade supports controlled field dressing and slicing, while its short length allows the user to guide the edge accurately.
The preserved rasp texture across the blade creates a clear connection to farrier and ranch traditions. The intricate pine-cone handle introduces natural layered patterns and makes every finished knife visually individual.
Handcrafted Rasp-File Steel Blade
The 3.25-inch blade is handcrafted from rasp-file steel, a material with strong roots in ranching, farrier work, and traditional workshops.
Rasp files are manufactured to withstand demanding abrasive use. During the knife-making process, the steel is carefully shaped, ground, heat treated, finished, and sharpened into a functional bull cutter blade.
A large section of the original diagonal rasp pattern remains visible. Instead of completely removing the file teeth, the knife maker preserves them as evidence of the material’s working origins.
The rasp texture may vary slightly from one blade to another due to the original file pattern and individual grinding process. These differences contribute to the handmade character of every knife.
Broad Bull Cutter Profile
A bull cutter knife is recognized by its broad, compact blade, practical straight cutting section, and rounded or controlled tip. This profile provides generous cutting surface without the length of a large field knife.
The pictured blade has a wide rectangular form with a gently rounded front. Its substantial edge supports controlled slicing and field-dressing work, while its compact 3.25-inch length improves maneuverability.
The wide blade can also be useful for cutting rope, opening feed sacks, trimming leather, slicing packaging, and completing regular ranch chores.
Although the blade has a broad appearance, it is intended for controlled cutting rather than heavy chopping. Avoid using it for prying, digging, striking, or turning fasteners.
Preserved Rasp Texture
The diagonal teeth retained across the blade are one of the knife’s most distinctive features. They create a repeating diamond-like pattern that immediately identifies the blade’s rasp-file origin.
Below the preserved texture, a clean satin-ground bevel forms the sharpened cutting edge. The contrast between rugged file marks and the smooth bevel emphasizes the transformation from workshop material into a finished ranch knife.
Textured steel requires careful maintenance. Moisture can remain between the rasp teeth if the blade is not dried properly, so the owner should clean and oil the entire surface after use.
Pine Cone and Resin Handle
The handle combines natural pine-cone material with resin, creating a detailed pattern of layered scales, ridges, and organic shapes.
The pictured handle features brown, copper, black, and lightly colored lines running along its length. These patterns resemble the natural structure of pine-cone scales and give the grip a rugged, earthy appearance.
Pine-cone resin handles are created by stabilizing natural material within durable resin. The resin fills spaces around the cone, creating a solid handle block that can be shaped, sanded, and polished.
Because pine cones differ naturally and resin flows uniquely through every block, no two handles will display exactly the same pattern. Variations in shade, scale position, and resin distribution make each knife individual.
Comfortable Contoured Grip
The handle has a gently rounded shape that follows the hand and provides sufficient gripping space for controlled use. Its contoured edges reduce uncomfortable pressure points while retaining a secure working profile.
The textured visual pattern does not create the roughness of an untreated pine cone. The handle is shaped and finished to provide a smooth, practical grip.
Brass pins secure the handle components and add warm golden details that complement the brown and copper coloring.
Balanced Seven-Inch Construction
The knife measures 7 inches overall, with a 3.25-inch blade and approximately 3.75-inch handle. These compact proportions provide a practical combination of portability and control.
The handle supplies adequate gripping space, while the short blade keeps the edge easy to guide. This size is especially convenient for ranch work, field dressing, camping, and outdoor property maintenance.
A compact knife can be carried comfortably throughout the day without the bulk and weight of a larger outdoor design.
Hand-Tooled Leather Pancake Sheath
The knife includes a dark brown leather pancake sheath with two elongated belt slots. This design supports horizontal or angled belt carry and helps keep the knife close to the body.
The sheath features detailed basketweave tooling, decorative floral borders, reinforced stitching, and carefully finished edges. Its dark earthy color complements the rasp blade and pine-cone handle.
A pancake sheath distributes the knife’s weight across a wider section of the belt, making it suitable for long periods of carry. Depending on the belt width and wearer’s preference, it may be positioned horizontally or at a slight cross-draw angle.
Genuine leather may vary naturally in shade, grain, tooling, and stitching. With regular use, it can develop a rich patina.
Designed for Field Dressing
The broad blade and compact dimensions make this knife suitable for controlled field-dressing tasks. Its wide edge provides useful cutting contact, while the short profile helps the user maintain careful control.
The rounded front is less needle-like than a conventional pointed blade, making the design appropriate for customers who prefer a broad working profile.
It can also assist with routine outdoor jobs, including:
- Cutting ranch rope and cord
- Opening feed and supply bags
- Trimming leather and similar materials
- Slicing packaging
- Preparing light campsite materials
- Completing controlled ranch cutting tasks
Western Ranch Heritage
Rasp steel carries a natural connection to horses, farriers, workshops, and ranch life. By preserving the original file teeth, the blade retains visible evidence of that working heritage.
The pine-cone handle adds another outdoor element, while brass pins and tooled leather complete the traditional Western presentation.
This combination makes the knife appropriate for practical use, gift presentation, and display in a collection of cowboy or ranch knives.
A Memorable Rancher Gift
The Field Dressing Bull Cutter Knife makes an excellent gift for ranchers, cowboys, farmers, farriers, hunters, campers, guides, and collectors.
It is suitable for birthdays, Father’s Day, anniversaries, Christmas, graduations, retirements, ranch celebrations, and hunting milestones.
The natural pine-cone pattern makes every handle different, giving the recipient an individual handcrafted piece. The leather pancake sheath completes the presentation and adds practical carrying value.
Rasp Steel Care Instructions
Clean the blade thoroughly after every use, paying particular attention to the preserved rasp teeth. Dry the entire surface and apply a thin coating of knife-safe mineral oil.
Do not place the knife in a dishwasher or leave it soaking in water. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners and abrasive pads.
For long-term storage, keep the lightly oiled knife in a cool, dry environment outside the leather sheath. Leather can retain environmental moisture.
Handle and Sheath Care
Wipe the pine-cone resin handle with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry it immediately. Avoid harsh solvents, abrasive cleaners, prolonged heat, and unnecessary soaking.
If the leather sheath becomes wet, remove the knife and let both pieces dry separately at room temperature. Do not use direct heat. Apply a suitable leather conditioner sparingly when necessary.
With proper use and maintenance, this compact bull cutter can retain its distinctive appearance and dependable cutting performance for years.

I'm very pleased with this tent after having it for two years I've been in the rain I've been in the snow and it's held up pretty good but the cover that covers it did not hold up that good but the tent is perfect
Really enjoy the awning. Easy setup and got a little rain on the first trip. Easy to adjust for the run off. Very happy with the purchase!
I am one of the earliest customers Astrodome, I bought it and didn’t set it up for almost a year. By the time we set it up, we were blown away by the beauty of this space we purchased it on a mountain ledge in our glamping retreat in Lake County California two hours north of San as much as I love this space there are definitely some challenges with it in our location. It might work better than other locations, but we have had problems with the stakes, slipping and collapsing in the ground beneath and with the prevailing winds, it did stay up and it stays dry, even in tornadoes, but because the wind hits it from One Direction coming from the coast, this is definitely been a challenge for us we are going to try adding some weight inside it. The guests absolutely love this space keep in mind that with those skylights it’s going to get hot in the summertime but what’s nice is in the winter. It heats up almost passive solar. it’s also wonderful with a woodstove. A very cost effective alternative to a geodesic dome! If you want to experience it stay in ours, on Hipcamp.
I bought one of these at Scheels and absolutely love it. Great design, has everything you would ever need in a first aid/trauma/survival kit. Have one in all of my vehicles now. These guys truly thought of everything
A complete coverage of possibilities for my project and needs.
I love my new tent stove. Costumer service was also attentive and great to work with. Thank you.
The mounts work perfect with the truck bed rack I have on. Thank you for the excellent line of communication. You guys never kept me in the dark. I will ordering from you guys again.
I was wondering if you are able to sell just two extra mounts or do they just come in a set of six.
The color was even better in person. For well, looks well made and was easy to fold up and put into the carrying case. There was a bunch of colored plastic pieces from manufacturing on the mat, but I was able to vacuum it right up so be careful pulling it out.
Although it took a little extra time the delay very of my OVS Truck Topper was great. Good price too!
Fully engaged with customer, helped me get the crossbar I needed on time!
Product worked out great for my rack setup.
Order was delayed due to manufacturer delays, but my questions were answered and expectations on timing reset along the way. Cross bars were in perfect condition and work great!
I was in the market for a 3/4 length roof rack for my 4Runner as I wanted an upgrade from the OEM rails but still wanted to retain a somewhat OEM look. I am very happy that I went with the Sherpa Needle. It is a high quality rack with the best install method out of all the racks I looked at. I like that it is designed so you don’t have to deal with a mess of silicone when mounting. It is also nice that the fairing sits just above the roof instead of resting on it so that the paint does not get scratched. I was worried about wind noise because of this but I am happy to say there is no added wind noise at all.
I am also glad I purchased this rack through Live More Outside. I shopped around and they had the best pricing considering I was able to get a discount code, shipping was free, and they don’t charge sales tax. Shipping was prompt and I received the rack sooner than I thought I would.
Overall I am very pleased with this purchase and I will definitely come back to Live More Outside as I continue to build my rig.
By far one of the best customer service! Nathan has been a huge help on any questions and quick to respond! Live more outside is top notch. We are getting ready to hit our first outing with our new RTT. Cant wait to test it out. We also just purchased a 270 awning. I found one on another website but wanted to keep my business with live more outside. Nathan price matched and beat their price! We will continue to keep our business with this company!
