PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Bone Handle Buckaroo Knife – D2 Acid Wash & Horizontal Sheath combines compact working performance with traditional Western materials and understated craftsmanship. Measuring 7 inches overall, this handmade fixed-blade knife features a broad 3.25-inch D2 steel blade, dark acid-wash finish, polished natural bone handle, brass fittings, and a hand-tooled leather pancake sheath.
Designed for ranchers, cowboys, hunters, farmers, campers, and collectors, this Buckaroo knife offers a practical balance of portability, control, and cutting capability. Its curved cutting belly supports smooth slicing and controlled skinning, while the manageable blade length allows accurate handling during detailed outdoor work.
The contrast between dark acid-washed steel, light natural bone, warm brass, and richly tooled leather gives the knife an authentic Western identity. Natural variations in the bone and handmade sheath ensure that every set possesses its own individual character.
3.25-Inch D2 Steel Blade
The knife features a 3.25-inch D2 tool steel blade. D2 is widely valued for its hardness, wear resistance, strength, and ability to maintain a useful cutting edge through repeated controlled use.
These qualities make it a dependable material for a compact ranch knife. The blade can handle routine tasks such as cutting rope, opening feed sacks, trimming leather, slicing packaging, preparing light camp materials, and completing everyday outdoor work.
Its broad profile provides generous cutting surface relative to its compact length. The curved belly supports sweeping cuts, while the point is positioned for controlled detail work.
Although D2 offers more corrosion resistance than many traditional high-carbon steels, it is not completely rustproof. The blade should be cleaned, dried, and lightly oiled regularly.
Rugged Acid-Wash Finish
The blade has a dark acid-wash finish that gives the knife a rugged, subdued appearance. Unlike a highly reflective mirror polish, this treatment creates a low-glare surface suited to the knife’s practical ranch character.
An acid-wash finish can also make small marks from regular use less noticeable. Subtle variations in shade, tone, and texture may appear across the blade, contributing to its handmade presentation.
The finish does not eliminate the need for blade maintenance. Moisture, humidity, blood, and acidic substances should be removed promptly to help protect the D2 steel.
Avoid aggressive polishing compounds and abrasive pads because they may alter or remove the acid-washed surface.
Broad Skinning Profile
The blade uses a broad drop-point-inspired design with a strong spine, curved cutting belly, and controlled point. This profile provides a versatile combination of slicing ability and accurate handling.
The rounded belly creates longer edge contact during sweeping movements, making it suitable for controlled skinning and field dressing. Its compact tip can assist with detailed work where careful blade placement is required.
At 3.25 inches, the blade remains easy to guide and carry. It offers useful cutting capacity without the additional weight and bulk of a larger field knife.
The knife is designed for controlled cutting and should not be used for prying, digging, striking, heavy chopping, or turning fasteners.
Full-Tang Construction
The steel appears to continue through the entire handle, creating a strong full-tang foundation. This construction style supports stability, balance, and dependable handling in a fixed-blade knife.
The metal tang is visible around the edges of the natural bone scales, reinforcing the knife’s handmade profile. Brass pins secure the handle components to the steel.
Full-tang construction does not make the knife indestructible. Responsible cutting and proper care remain essential for protecting the blade, point, handle, and fittings.
Polished Natural Bone Handle
The handle is crafted from polished natural bone, a traditional material valued for its firm feel, classic coloring, and ability to take a smooth finish.
The pictured scales display cream, ivory, and lightly shaded natural tones. Small variations in grain, color, lines, and surface markings may occur because bone is an organic material.
These variations are not manufacturing faults. They give each handle a slightly different appearance and distinguish the knife from completely uniform synthetic designs.
The handle has a gently curved shape with a defined finger area near the blade. Its contoured profile supports controlled handling without creating unnecessary bulk.
Brass Pins and Lanyard Opening
Brass pins secure the bone handle scales to the tang. Their warm golden tone provides subtle contrast against the light bone and dark blade.
A brass-lined lanyard opening reinforces the hole at the handle’s rear. The owner may add a leather lanyard for easier retrieval or additional Western styling.
Over time, brass may naturally darken and develop a patina. It may be left aged for traditional character or gently polished using a suitable brass-care product.
Balanced Seven-Inch Design
The knife measures 7 inches overall, making it compact enough for comfortable belt carry while providing sufficient cutting reach for routine outdoor work.
The 3.25-inch blade and approximately 3.75-inch handle create balanced proportions. The handle supplies adequate gripping space, while the blade remains manageable during detailed cutting.
This compact construction is particularly convenient for ranch work, camping, horseback riding, hunting trips, and property maintenance. It can remain accessible throughout the day without becoming excessively heavy.
Horizontal Leather Belt Sheath
The knife includes a hand-tooled brown leather pancake sheath with two elongated belt slots. The sheath can be positioned for horizontal or angled cross-draw carry, depending on belt width and personal preference.
Horizontal carry holds the knife close to the belt and helps distribute its weight across a wider area. It may also provide greater comfort while sitting, driving, riding, or working around a ranch.
The sheath features Western tooling, reinforced borders, contrasting stitching, and finished edges. Its warm brown coloring complements the cream bone and brass fittings.
Leather can vary naturally in shade, grain, texture, stitching, and tooling. Regular use may create a distinctive patina.
Designed for Ranch and Outdoor Work
The Bone Handle Buckaroo Knife is suitable for controlled cutting around a ranch, farm, hunting camp, workshop, or campsite.
Common uses include:
- Controlled skinning and field dressing
- Cutting ranch rope, cord, and twine
- Opening feed and supply bags
- Trimming leather and similar materials
- Slicing packaging
- Preparing light camp materials
- Completing routine outdoor cutting jobs
Its broad belly supports sweeping movements, while the compact point provides control for more detailed work.
Western Buckaroo Heritage
The term “Buckaroo” is closely linked to cowboy and ranching traditions of the American West. A traditional Buckaroo knife should be portable, practical, and suitable for regular working use.
This knife reflects that heritage through its uncomplicated fixed-blade construction, natural bone scales, brass fittings, acid-washed steel, and hand-tooled leather sheath.
The design is rugged enough for outdoor use while remaining attractive enough for collection display. Its combination of natural materials and restrained detailing gives it timeless Western character.
A Memorable Rancher Gift
This Bone Handle Buckaroo Knife makes a thoughtful gift for ranchers, cowboys, hunters, farmers, campers, guides, and knife collectors.
It is appropriate for birthdays, Father’s Day, anniversaries, graduations, Christmas, retirements, ranch celebrations, and hunting milestones.
The included horizontal leather sheath completes the set and adds practical value. Natural bone variation also gives every gift an individual appearance.
Blade Care Instructions
Clean the D2 blade after every use and dry it thoroughly. Apply a thin coating of knife-safe mineral oil, especially after exposure to water, blood, humidity, or acidic materials.
Do not place the knife in a dishwasher or leave it soaking in water. Avoid abrasive cleaners and metal polishes that could change the acid-wash finish.
For long-term storage, keep the lightly oiled knife in a cool, dry location outside the leather sheath. Leather can hold environmental moisture against the steel.
Handle and Sheath Care
Wipe the bone handle with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry it immediately. Avoid soaking, harsh chemicals, abrasive products, direct heat, and rapid temperature changes.
If the leather sheath becomes wet, remove the knife and let both pieces dry separately at room temperature. Apply a suitable leather conditioner sparingly when needed.
With proper use and routine maintenance, this Buckaroo knife can retain its dependable cutting performance and traditional Western appearance for many years.

I'm very pleased with this tent after having it for two years I've been in the rain I've been in the snow and it's held up pretty good but the cover that covers it did not hold up that good but the tent is perfect
Really enjoy the awning. Easy setup and got a little rain on the first trip. Easy to adjust for the run off. Very happy with the purchase!
I am one of the earliest customers Astrodome, I bought it and didn’t set it up for almost a year. By the time we set it up, we were blown away by the beauty of this space we purchased it on a mountain ledge in our glamping retreat in Lake County California two hours north of San as much as I love this space there are definitely some challenges with it in our location. It might work better than other locations, but we have had problems with the stakes, slipping and collapsing in the ground beneath and with the prevailing winds, it did stay up and it stays dry, even in tornadoes, but because the wind hits it from One Direction coming from the coast, this is definitely been a challenge for us we are going to try adding some weight inside it. The guests absolutely love this space keep in mind that with those skylights it’s going to get hot in the summertime but what’s nice is in the winter. It heats up almost passive solar. it’s also wonderful with a woodstove. A very cost effective alternative to a geodesic dome! If you want to experience it stay in ours, on Hipcamp.
I bought one of these at Scheels and absolutely love it. Great design, has everything you would ever need in a first aid/trauma/survival kit. Have one in all of my vehicles now. These guys truly thought of everything
A complete coverage of possibilities for my project and needs.
I love my new tent stove. Costumer service was also attentive and great to work with. Thank you.
The mounts work perfect with the truck bed rack I have on. Thank you for the excellent line of communication. You guys never kept me in the dark. I will ordering from you guys again.
I was wondering if you are able to sell just two extra mounts or do they just come in a set of six.
The color was even better in person. For well, looks well made and was easy to fold up and put into the carrying case. There was a bunch of colored plastic pieces from manufacturing on the mat, but I was able to vacuum it right up so be careful pulling it out.
Although it took a little extra time the delay very of my OVS Truck Topper was great. Good price too!
Fully engaged with customer, helped me get the crossbar I needed on time!
Product worked out great for my rack setup.
Order was delayed due to manufacturer delays, but my questions were answered and expectations on timing reset along the way. Cross bars were in perfect condition and work great!
I was in the market for a 3/4 length roof rack for my 4Runner as I wanted an upgrade from the OEM rails but still wanted to retain a somewhat OEM look. I am very happy that I went with the Sherpa Needle. It is a high quality rack with the best install method out of all the racks I looked at. I like that it is designed so you don’t have to deal with a mess of silicone when mounting. It is also nice that the fairing sits just above the roof instead of resting on it so that the paint does not get scratched. I was worried about wind noise because of this but I am happy to say there is no added wind noise at all.
I am also glad I purchased this rack through Live More Outside. I shopped around and they had the best pricing considering I was able to get a discount code, shipping was free, and they don’t charge sales tax. Shipping was prompt and I received the rack sooner than I thought I would.
Overall I am very pleased with this purchase and I will definitely come back to Live More Outside as I continue to build my rig.
By far one of the best customer service! Nathan has been a huge help on any questions and quick to respond! Live more outside is top notch. We are getting ready to hit our first outing with our new RTT. Cant wait to test it out. We also just purchased a 270 awning. I found one on another website but wanted to keep my business with live more outside. Nathan price matched and beat their price! We will continue to keep our business with this company!
